Advanced Medical Textiles

Chitozan Health’s patented silver chitosan (glucosamine) formulas have been proven to provide outstanding eradication of harmful bacteria, fungus, and viruses with out causing cross-adaptation or inducing resistance.

Our advanced formula of silver chitosan was developed using our NIH NIAID grant award. this new formula contains 32 times less silver than any silver antimicrobial finish on the market today. Electron microscopy (TEM) has shown that all silver particles are larger than 100nm, above the recognized nano-particle range. silver shell finish has passed multiple tests and was shown to pose no inhalation, ocular, oral, or dermal risk. Silver shell may pass as an EPA Category IV, minimal risk.

Over 50 efficacy tests on finished textiles have proven that our Advanced Silver Shell textile finish achieves a sustained kill of bacteria of 99.999% ( 5 log 10) or better. Independent laboratory testing at GMP and ISO registered facilities show effectiveness against a broad spectrum of harmful strains of bacteria and fungus. these include strains of greatest concern to health organizations:

C-diff, E-coli, K. pneumonia, a. baumannii, candida auris and candida albicans, SARS CoV-2, Covid 19, MRSA, VRSA, VRE, ciprofloxacin-resistant resistant s. aureus, Gentamiocin-resistant p. aeruginosa, salmonella, and more.

silver shell has also been shown suitable for mature biofilm eradication.

Cellusan and Silusan Packaging Coatings Biodegrade and are Compostable

Cellusan

Cellusan is a revolutionary innovation for packaging films. Cellusan has been created to replace synthetic film coatings PET, PVC, PVOC, and EVOH that take century’s to decompose. Cellusan has been tested using standard test methods to rapidly decompose in soil and in salt water.

Cellusan is composed of abundant natural organic polymers. It has excellent oxygen and moisture barrier properties roughly equivalent to PET and EVOH. The moisture barrier properties can be adjusted to block low, medium and high amounts of moisture depending on the need.

Cellusan can be applied using existing equipment with little to no modification of processes.

Cellusan is forecast to be cost competitive to current synthetics.

Cellusan, when applied to a compostable substrate, is fully compostable without negative environmental impact. It can also bypass the recycling waste stream and go directly into home or commercial composting facilities. Cellusan is food for soil microbes! Its unique combination of natural polymers cellulose and chitin/chitosan decomposes faster than either ingredient by itself.

Cellusan is moderately antimicrobial.

Silusan Antimicrobial

Silusan antimicrobial packaging film coating was created to address the growing demand for a safe non-toxic antimicrobial packing film that is produced sustainably and is compostable while also having the ability to decompose in salt water.

Silusan, when applied to a compostable substrate, decomposes in months, not decades or century’s.

Silusan is composed of two natural abundant polymers with a minute amount of silver. No detectable leaching or release of silver ions occurs when this film coating is applied.

The amount of silver contained in the coating has been measured to be below the EPA’s maximum exposure level. It has passed 9 toxicity studies including three ISO 10993 tests. Testing validates that the patented Silver Shell silver chitozan ingredient used to impart antimicrobial properties poses no human health risk. it passed testing as an EPA Category IV, minimal risk product.

Over 40 efficacy studies have been conducted on Silver Shell, the active ingredient in Silusan. These include an ASTM G21 test to determine resistance to fungi. Even after 28 days no fungal growth was observed directly on the coated films.

Silusan is forecast to be cost competitive to current antimicrobial coatings and can be applied using existing equipment and processes.

Shields coated with Silusan antimicrobial kills bacteria on contact and may improve safety for healthcare workers.

Silusan Spray

Silusan Spray can be applied to plastic surfaces after manufacture to provide strong antimicrobial protection to plastic and polycarbonate surfaces like face shields and touch screens. Silusan Spray provides sustaining semi-permanent antimicrobial protection through contact and sustained inhibition of bacteria and viruses.

Unlike other antimicrobial technology, Silver Shell, the active ingredient, does not release silver ions or free silver to detectable levels. Instead pathogens are attracted to the coating surface where they adhere and are rapidly killed or inactivated.
